Early Morning (6–9 AM)
The best time to ride in Key West. The air is coolest, the tropical sun is still low, and the island streets and beach paths are quiet — perfect for a sunrise cruise.
Late Afternoon (4–6 PM)
Ideal for sunset rides to Mallory Square or Fort Zachary Taylor. The heat eases, the breeze picks up off the water, and the golden light over the Gulf is unbeatable.
Avoid Midday (11 AM–3 PM)
The tropical midday sun is intense. If you ride then, stick to shaded Old Town streets, carry plenty of water, and use reef-safe sunscreen and a wide-brim hat.
- •Wear a helmet: A properly fitted helmet is smart even on flat island streets — Key West traffic can be unpredictable
- •Stay hydrated: The tropical heat is real — carry more water than you think you need, and ride early or late to beat midday sun
- •Use reef-safe sunscreen: Reapply often. A wide-brim hat and UV-rated sunglasses make a huge difference on open beach paths
- •Lock your bike: Bike theft is common in tourist areas — use a solid U-lock, not just a cable, when you stop to explore
- •Watch for scooters & pedestrians: Duval Street and Mallory Square get crowded — ride predictably and yield to foot traffic
